Christianity?

Among the many beliefs that constitute Christianity are the following:
- That an omnipotent, immortal Being, who looks just like us, created the entire universe, with its billions of galaxies, each containing billions of stars, specifically for us humans, and did it all in 6 ‘days’, whatever a ‘day’ was, when there was no mention of the Earth’s rotation period at all.
- That this same Being made a human male from dirt and a woman from the man’s rib, and that these two were the forebears of the entire human race, and yet they only had two children, both sons, one of which killed the other, and the survivor who then went to the land of Nod, where he took a wife, and later founded a city. So whence cometh all these other people?
- Don’t forget Gawd’s punishment of the human race, by kicking them out of Eden. Why? Because Eve ate of the tree of knowledge. So obviously, Gawd wanted humans to remain ignorant, as long as they had the ability to worship Him/Her/It.
- At one point this Big Poobah decided he didn’t approve of the behaviour of humans so decided to drown them all, plus the animals, of course, in a world-wide flood, except for one 600 year old man, his 3 sons, and their families. To save them from the flood, he ordered this elderly man and sons to build a 450 foot long boat by laboriously carving the necessary lumber from trees using axes and saws, and assembling it without screws or nails. This craft was to house the fortunate man and his kin, plus pairs of all the animals in the world, for the year that the flood would last, so they gathered all these critters from around the world, provided them with food while on the boat, then returned them to the areas they came from afterward, where there was nothing for the herbivores to eat, as all the plants had died from a year covered in salty water, and the carnivores obviously ate their fellow passengers .
- Later on, the Big Guy’s favourite tribe, the Israelites, were exiled to Egypt for 400 years, for some strange reason, and were enslaved by the Egyptians. They tried to get the Pharaoh to let them go numerous times, but every time when he appeared ready to agree, Big Guy ‘hardened Pharaoh’s heart’, so that he refused, giving Gawd an excuse to bring down various plagues on Egypt. By this time there were 600,000 men in the tribe, so, counting wives, children and old folks, there must have been over 2 million of them. Eventually they just up and left, but Pharaoh sent an army after them. They trapped the Israelites up against the Red Sea, but then Super-duper-man parted the sea to allow his chosen to cross over. The Egyptian army followed, but then Gawd allowed the waters of the sea to close over the army and drown them. The Isrealites spent the next 40 years wandering in the desert of the Sinai peninsula.
- Finally, the Big Guy told the Isrealites they could enter the promised Land (Canaan) Unfortunately, it was already occupied by several other tribes, but the Grand Poobah helped the Israelites to annihilate them all, man, woman and child, except in one case they were allowed to keep the young female virgins as (sex) slaves,
- A while later, Gawd decided to give humans eternal life. All they had to do was believe in him, and follow his commandments, and to this end, He decided to send a part of himself down to Earth in human form. To accomplish this he raped a young Israelite woman, who then gave birth to this immortal Being in human form, who was named Jesus. After he was grown, he began to preach to his fellows, and soon gathered a group of followers known as his disciples. He gave numerous talks to crowds of people, and eventually he came to the attention of the Roman authorities, and was crucified, an act that apparently was necessary to ensure the Big guy’s promise of eternal life for believers, and yet the people responsible for His death are vilified – go figure.
- The foregoing stories, plus a lot of others, were eventually written down as if the writers had actually witnessed the events, when, in fact, they were tales passed down for several decades before they were put on paper. Centuries later, a bunch of priestly believers chose a number of these stories to be placed in a holy book called the Bible. Unfortunately, most of these stories are just myths and distortions of actual events, with little or no historical truth to verify them, which does not faze the true Christian believer.
- I think the following biblical quote, brought to my attention by Al Stefanelli, sums up my thoughts on Christianity -Hebrews, Chapter 1, Verse 1, Now, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. That’s faith in a nutshell
- And a fitting comment by Thomas Jefferson:
” Question with boldness even the existence of a god; because, if there be one, he must more approve the homage of reason, than that of blindfolded fear ”
