Fear of Atheists?

Many Christians appear to fear, or even hate, atheists, while one would expect a good Christian to pity them, as they are obviously headed for Hell. 

or a possible explanation, consider the somewhat analogous scenario, that of the many alpha males who hate gay men.  In some cases at least, the reason may be that the macho guy is afraid that one of these ‘fairies’ might hit on him, which would cause a loss of his masculinity, or even worse, he might succumb to the wiles of homosexuality.

Similarly, the Christian may fear that listening to an atheist expound his reasons for non-belief might cause him to doubt his own faith, or even worse, convince him that his religion is meaningless.

Then there are those Christians who think that all morals are given to us humans by God through the Bible, so Atheists must be immoral, and therefore are to  be feared.
